Has anyone noticed the amount of dog dirt that is on our pavements at the moment. Cotgrave streets are full of it at the moment. Surely people realise that dog mess can cause blindness in children if they come into contact with this and not only that it looks dreadful. We seem to be living in a dog toilet. | |||||

You are so right. Risegate has always been a problem, but also by the school entrance on Owthorpe Road. Is it the little bit of grass? Do owners think the grass is a doggy only spot? Do they think people with children, pushchairs, motability scooters will not have to step on the grass, or more likely don't they care about the health hazard?

Its not all dog owners the majority of the owners do pick up after their dogs but its when you have children walking the dogs and one or two who just dont bother. Please do not lump us all in the same boat, If you see someone leaving this mess and offer to give them a bag they usually verbally abuse you. Others will make sure they have enough bags with them, any coat or pocket of mine usually has bags in much to my embarrasment at times

In response to a residents complaint regarding dog fouling the Neighbourhood Manager at Rushcliffe Borough Council has forward the following:- "Rushcliffe Borough Council's officers responsible for dog fouling enforcement do patrol the streets of Cotgrave and focus attention on high risk areas, eg children's play areas, or areas where heavy fouling has been identified. We are currently focussing our attention on the area around Ring Leas but as I am sure you can appreciate, the area is large, many of the offences are committed under the cover of darkness and therefore catching the offender is very difficult. We will however continue to persist in our actions. In addition to this we are currently designing a campaign that is designed to educate and inform the public around the subject of dog fouling, how anti social it is, the health risks, and possible financial penalties. Some of the work of this campaign will be targeted at Cotgrave. Finally I would like to say that it is the opinion of officers involved with dog fouling duties that the majority of dog owners are responsible and do pick up their dogs waste, however, a small minority seem determined to persist in breaking the law and the impact of this lack of respect for other members of the community and public space is significant. If you have identified any specific areas that require additional cleansing or patrolling, or indeed have any information on who may be allowing their dog to foul and not picking it up then please pass this information onto us. You may do this by ringing the Council on (0115) 9819911 or by using our 'report a problem' facility on the website (www.rushcliffe.gov.uk)".

Its getting totally out of hand, I have previously put comments on here before regarding the dog poo situation. My house on Daleside is constantly used as a 'toilet stop' for local dogs and usually find faeces on my drive and on the entrance to my drive. I am absolutley sick of it and am considering putting a sign up its so bad. It got particularly bad during the snow for some reason, like people got beyond caring. Ive said this before and Ill say it again, if I catch anyone letting their dog do this I will follow them home and shove their dogs business through their letterbox! I have 3 children and am sick of asking them to tread carefully when they leave the house in the morning!

I agree with GG, the area aroung Daleside is bad especially near the new houses on the diamong site. I also think that the Town Council should put their name behind a campaign to try to sort out the problem. I realise it is not their responsibility to clear it up, but they are OUR town council and should be seen to be getting involved. It is a health and safety matter affecting their village children!.I also agree with another comment, there are also children out walking dogs and i wonder if this is some of the problem. If any of the town councillers read this I would be interested on their comments as to the council getting involved.

Whilst I understand your point of view and thank you for being a good dog walker and picking up the little deposits they leave behind, there are however a lot of people out there who don't. There's too much mess for it to be only a few.

I myself am a dog owner and I always make sure that I have enough bags with mw to pick up my dogs mess. I have noticed as I walk around Cotgrave regularly that the grass area at the end of Woodview near the playpark is a particular area where people let their dogs mess and dont pick it up and in the summer months its where a lot of children play football. As hard as it sounds, it probably needs a dog owners child to suffer from dropped dog mess before something is done, and it tends to be owners of large dogs that are the biggest problem.

keefy that's a harsh statement most of it comes from owners of larger dogs what evidence have you got to support that i am not 1 for taken a tape measure to this stuff but does seem to be from a different mix of dogs and sizes.the same story with the country park dogs large and small All owners should pick up after their dogs.

I agree,it seems to be the main ring route of cotgrave that suffers aswell, such as Ringleas, Colston Gate, etc. where people take their dogs in the evening for their walkies, but whilst it is dark they just let them do their business on the path, dont pick it up,because no one can see them, then the general public end up stepping in it. I walked along Colston Gate the other evening and to be honest it was like running the dog**** gauntlet!

This problem will never go away unless maybe someone is prosecuted and made an example of. We always get the message "Well it's not my dog". Well it's got to be someones. As for the grassed areas aroung the village would it not be possible for some strongly worded signs to be erected. Also the last few times I've been through the country park I've seen bags of dog dirt hung on fencing or tree branches. Now that's surely just taking the mickey.
