I was really stunned on Sunday afternoon (28th Feb)that the childrens playarea near the precinct was locked and we could not get in (it was not a bad weather day! so the park couldn't of been slippy???)My little boy really wanted to have a play with his grandma and grandad as he doesn't get to see them that often and the weather was ok for playing outside. Could anyone let me know why it was not open as there was no signs saying that the park was damaged so sorry for the closure?????

I am very sorry that you could not get into the park. Unfortunately there was some confusion over who was expected to open it.

I will try to ensure that this does not happen again. And once again please accept my apologies that your family`s enjoyment was marred in this way.

This is not the first time this has happened though is it? I took my kids there one Saturday afternoon a couple of weeks ago and it was locked then too. It was a long tiresome walk back to our house with my little ones in tears! Broadmeer is closer to us but we thought we'd ring the changes and walk further. Don't think we'll bother next time.

I know also that this isnt the first time the park has been closed without warning due to some unforseen event. But lets be fair the whole point about it being closed is because something has not gone to plan and it doesnt happen all that often and i think that most can agree the council are doing a great job keeping it clean, open and friendly.

And the last time i took my kids along to find it closed i decided to take advantage of the masses of open space around the park and taught my kids some of the old games i used to play like bulldog and dobbie! had a great time.

I agree the council does a good job protecting these areas from the inevitable abuse they would receive should they be left open all night. I know from experience that teenagers tend to take over the play areas in the long hours after school and, although initially simply looking for a quiet area, eventually get round to distributing litter, fluids and noise liberally around. Got to ask... what's dobbie?
