Unfortunately, the County Council has informed this Council that the light columns on the Shopping Centre and on the footpath from Candleby Lane cannot be used to support flower baskets due to their being of a raise and lower design. We are told that their counterbalance system is set up for the weight of the lantern and nothing in addition. This type of column is installed in locations where it would be difficult to reach them using a standard vehicle. We have been given two weeks to remove them. I have investigated whether it would be possible to try and fit the baskets to the shop walls, however, the supplier does not have suitable brackets for either of the two sizes of lamppost hanging baskets. Council has reached what we hope you agree is an acceptable compromise. The plants will be transferred into three larger planters, one to be placed at each entrance to the Shopping Centre. Obviously, this is not ideal because the plants are best left undisturbed and the roots will be entwined but we hope they will thrive. The contractor hopes to start the work week commencing 5th July

I dont know what anyone else thinks, but when ever i have seen the large pots being used elsewhere they seem to fill up pretty quick with empty drink cans and fag ends. I personally think that if all we are talking about is the cost of wall mounts then why not hold a small collection, i for one would be more than willing to throw in a tenner and im sure many others would too.
